Shane singing "Gotta Find You" to Mitchie |
Hi everybody! It’s
Kimberly here for my eleventh post for the genre “Children’s
Music.”
Finals
week is almost here (or is already here for some of you) which means that it’s
almost time for summer vacation! I’m sure that all of us have great memories of
summer vacation whether it’s going to the beach or even going to a summer
camp. To start off your summer vacation
and mine, I decided to do two reviews from the Disney Channel Original movies Camp
Rock and Camp Rock 2. For the
first week, I’m going to be reviewing “Gotta Find You” from Camp Rock.
Camp Rock premiered on the Disney Channel in 2008, which
is when the Jonas Brothers were pretty much at the height of their
success. The Jonas Brothers, Nick, Joe,
and Kevin Jonas, rose to fame started when their music video for their cover of
“Year 3000” premiered on Disney Channel.
It was especially exciting for kids like me when it was announced that
Joe Jonas would play the lead as Shane Gray and that his brothers would also be
making appearances in Camp Rock as his bandmates.
The main
character to whom Joe Jonas would be the love interest was Mitchie Torres who
was played by a then slightly unknown Demi Lovato. In Camp Rock Lovato’s Mitchie is just
an ordinary girl who longs to be popular.
She’s shy and she is wary of sharing her own compositions with the rest
of the world. Shane ends up hearing
Mitchie sing her original song “This is Me,” and Shane decides to make it his
mission to meet this mystery girl and that’s why he writes the song “Gotta Find
You.”
Without
knowing it, Shane ends up befriending Mitchie whom he doesn’t know is his
“mystery girl.” He ends up singing
“Gotta Find You,” to Mitchie because she becomes one of his close friends at
camp. “Gotta Find You,” is a love song
that is backed by an acoustic guitar. If
we’re comparing it to Jonas Brothers songs, I would say that it’s most like
“Hello Beautiful.” The sentiment behind
“Gotta Find You” is sweet and reflects the naivety of a summer camp love. The most memorable lyrics stem from the
chorus, which help explain what Shane is feeling: “You’re the voice I hear
inside my head, the reason that I’m singing.
I need to find you. Gotta find
you.” I’m giving “Gotta Find You” 3
records because although its lyrics aren’t exactly groundbreaking, it’s an easy
listen which reflects the easy-going bliss that we all probably associate with
summer.
I hope you enjoyed my review of “Gotta Find You” and if you
did, please make sure to come back to JUKEBOX Music Reviews again next week for
another review from my genre “Children’s Music.” J
